Rash On Back Of Neck
Leading Causes of Rash on Back of Neck
A rash on back of neck refers to a skin condition that is more common than many would expect. This condition makes the skin dry and very itchy. The rash on neck appears red and can cause some moderate amount of pain. This rash may also cause a change in texture at the affected rash on face and neck area.
Causes of Rash on Back of Neck:
Acne, a skin disorder, can cause a rash on neck. It manifests itself in the form of whiteheads, blackheads and pimples at the affected areas. The most common type of acne is the one that affects the face and back. This type of disorder can occur anywhere but, it is sometimes confined only on the neck. Creams and other ointments that can cure this type of skin disorder are available in many chemists and drug stores and can be bought over the counter. It is advisable for one to buy skin creams that contain a lot of salicylic acid.
Dermatitis is also a common cause of rash on back of neck. This condition causes development of a rash that causes severe itching and swelling on the skin. This skin disease causes severe discomfort due to itching. A skin affected by dermatitis turns red as a result of scratching to relieve the constant itching. The condition is caused by an allergic reaction from materials such as jewellery, metals, drugs etc.
Medication Induced Rash on Back of Neck
A rash on back of neck could also be the result of a reaction to certain types of medication. This reaction manifests itself in the form of itchy rashes at the back of the neck and ears. A person that develops such a reaction is normally advised by the doctor to discontinue using the medicine, and then prescribes a new one. Common medications that might cause a reaction include penicillin and quinine.
A rash on back of neck may also be the result of a food allergy. Intake of certain types of food might cause one to develop a reaction that may lead the skin to develop a rash. Sea foods like crabs and other crustaceans have been known to cause reactions that lead to itching in affected areas. The severity of the food allergy shows how much rash has developed and its coverage of the body. A mild reaction causes a rash on a specific part of the body e.g. the neck. A chronic reaction causes a rash on the whole body and may be accompanied with swelling of the mouth and lips or even wheezing and difficulty in breathing.
Eczema is another possible cause of a rash to develop on the neck. This skin condition causes development of a red, itchy rash that is mostly limited to the neck area.
Another skin condition that can lead to a rash on back of neck includes psoriasis. It manifests itself through the development of a rash that can burst leading to development of pus filled blisters that can cause a burning sensation around the affected parts. Most rash disappear after a while but, one who develops a tenacious rash on back of neck should see a doctor as soon as possible.
